Human Trafficking
Are You Being Trafficked? We Can Help.
Are you being forced to engage in sexual acts against your will? Is someone threatening to harm you or your family if you try to leave? Are you pregnant and being pressured to get an abortion?
If so, please know that we are here to help. Our center is a safe, confidential space—which means that when you enter our doors, anything you share will be kept strictly private.
You are not in this alone—we are here to help you have everything you need to get out of your situation and rebuild your life, including connecting you with protection services, housing and financial assistance, counseling, and so much more. And we will walk with you every step of the way.
But the first step is to get away from your traffickers. Because we know that you’re in a dangerous situation and that time is of the essence, we’ve created a list of helpful resources to help you get to safety.
Recognize the Signs of Trafficking
Sometimes, you might not know if you’re being trafficked. Signs of trafficking include:
- Someone is controlling your movements (for example, not letting you leave)
- Someone is forcing you to commit sexual acts
- Someone is taking your money
- Someone is forcing you to get an abortion after becoming pregnant during an unwanted sex act
Seek Immediate Help
Call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text “HELP” to (233733). This hotline is confidential and available 24/7. It can connect you with local resources and safe shelters. If you’re in immediate danger, call 911.
Plan Your Escape
Planning an escape is dangerous, and careful consideration is essential.
Before making an escape, ensure your essential belongings are in order so that you can grab them quickly when the time is right.
To plan an escape, look for windows where you are most likely to have an opportunity to be alone—and then take advantage of that time by removing yourself from the situation and calling 911.
And remember, there is safety in the public. Try to get to the nearest public place and let the individuals around you know what’s going on. They can protect you as you wait for emergency services to arrive.
